For as long as I can remember, I’ve longed for adventure and excitement, and the day job was no different. This is probably why the 9-5 lifestyle never really worked out for me; after time the jobs felt grey and mundane and I seemed to spend way too much time attending meetings that should’ve been emails and reading emails that should’ve been meetings. In my early twenties my resentment eventually raised the question that if I work so hard, why do I have little money and even less time?
My journey of self discovery and entrepreneurship started there and shortly after this I joined the British Army for some more challenge and excitement. Ten years on I’m running my dream business alongside my career in the Army Reserves having spent the past five years in particular, helping people to set up and grow their businesses.
I have worked in a number of great roles over the past 10 years, all in some way contributing to my knowledge and expertise of business right now. The first business start-up I set up was a cleaning company, back in 2010 - initially a way of escaping the 9-5 but which actually led to some of my greatest lessons in business and helped me to build my network which led me into my first corporate position; a marketing manager for a business consultancy firm. Clearly I felt totally out of my depth in this job but I rose to the challenge and it wasn’t long before I was consulting for this firm on an associate basis; in control of my destiny once more.
In 2015, craving a change of scenery that would fit around my existing commitment, (and inspired by my network) I decided to try my hand at life in the military. I have never looked back!
In between former and current business, I held a position at HMRC as a business and personal tax advisor and can honestly say that that was a fantastic investment of my time; I use that knowledge almost everyday.
Directly before leaving to pursue my latest venture, I worked at a veterans charity as its Enterprise Consultant where I was involved in the delivery of a number of large contracts, including business growth coaching for charities, business growth through implementing digital strategies and, showing members of the ex military community how to start a business.
When I'm not working with clients, I enjoy exploring the great outdoors, mainly in my local area (thanks to Covid), with my two gorgeous kids and my yellow Lab, Buzz.
I also love to get stuck into whatever the training programme has to offer at my reserve unit in North East England.
Oh, and I happen to love cleaning - especially bathrooms!
